WHITE CRACKLE GLAZE

Here are some examples of the White Crackle Glaze

GLAZE RECIPE:

Frit 3124   40

Gerstley Borate 25

Neph Sye. 25

OM#4   10

Zircopax  3

METHOD:

You can double or quadruple the recipe. Weigh the materials, add water and mix until table cream consistency. Sieve twice. Brush 3 substantial coats on with a hake brush, dry between each coat.( Also try pouring or dipping.)

The 'calligraphic' designs are made by ripping masking tape and applying to bisque before applying the glaze. Carefully remove after glaze application and before firing. Everything unglazed will turn black in the smoke.

Fire to 1800 F. Post-fire in a bucket lined and supported by clean news print. Let cool with the lid on. When cleaning, if the smoke satin is stubborn use Comet, a non-abrasive pad and rinse very well.

MY FIRING SCHEDULE:

As mentioned earlier I used a side-loading electric kiln with a pyrometer. When desired temperature is reached turn off the power.

One hour on low,peeps open.

One hour on Medium, peeps still open.

On high until 1800F peeps closed.
